Privacy policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Bazaarak (the marketplace operated at bazaarak.ca — “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you shop, sell, browse, or contact us. It works together with our Terms of use, Seller terms, and Cookie policy.
1. Who is responsible
Bazaarak is the organization responsible for personal information collected through bazaarak.ca and related Services. Independent Sellers receive order details needed to fulfill purchases; they are responsible for how they use that information once it is shared for fulfillment.
2. Information we collect
Account & profile
- Name, email address, phone (if provided), authentication credentials, language and theme preferences.
- Order history, saved addresses, favorites, and cart contents when you are signed in.
Checkout & orders
- Shipping and billing details, order items, amounts, taxes, and fulfillment messages.
- Payment card data is handled by our payment processors. We do not store full card numbers on Bazaarak servers.
Store owners (Sellers)
- Business name, store settings, tax and shipping configuration, legal business documents you upload for review, and payment onboarding data submitted to payment processors.
- Admin activity related to catalog, orders, returns, and fees.
Automatic & technical data
- Device and browser type, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, and cookies or similar technologies (see Cookie policy).
- Security and fraud-prevention signals from Firebase, payment partners, and hosting providers.
3. Why we use information (PIPEDA purposes)
- Provide and operate the marketplace, process orders, and connect shoppers with Sellers.
- Authenticate users, secure accounts, and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Send transactional messages (order confirmations, OTP codes, receipts, shipping updates).
- Send optional marketing only where permitted under Canadian law (including CASL) and with a clear unsubscribe option where required.
- Improve the Services, diagnose issues, and provide customer support.
- Meet legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations and enforce our terms.
4. How we share information
| Recipient | Why |
|---|---|
| Sellers on Bazaarak | To fulfill orders (name, shipping or pickup details, contact, line items). |
| Payment processors | To authorize, settle, and dispute card payments. |
| Firebase / Google Cloud | Authentication, database, and file storage. |
| Netlify | Hosting the website and serverless functions (checkout helpers, email OTP, receipts). |
| Email delivery (e.g. Resend) | Transactional email such as verification codes and order receipts. |
| Legal & safety | When required by law or to protect users, Sellers, or the platform. |
We do not sell your personal information. Sellers must use customer data only to fulfill orders and to comply with privacy and consumer laws—not for unrelated marketing unless they have a lawful basis and your consent where required.
5. Cross-border processing
Some service providers process data in the United States or other countries (for example Google Firebase, Netlify, and payment processors). When personal information leaves Canada, it may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by foreign authorities. We use reputable providers and contractual and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
6. Your choices & rights
- Access or update much of your profile in Your account.
- Request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you by emailing privacy@bazaarak.ca.
- Withdraw consent for optional uses (such as marketing) where consent is the basis for processing, without affecting services that still require the information.
- Control cookies through your browser (see Cookie policy).
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
7. Retention & security
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above, to resolve disputes, and to meet legal retention requirements (for example tax and transaction records). We use safeguards appropriate to a modern web marketplace—including encryption in transit, access controls, and Firebase security rules—but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
8. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, contact privacy@bazaarak.ca and we will take appropriate steps.
9. Changes
We will post updates on this page with a new “Last updated” date. When changes are material, we may also notify you by email or a notice in the Services.
